Although I didn’t know her at the time, I actually went to elementary school with Rileigh. I was a few years older, and as the rule seems to be when you’re young, you mostly just talk to kids in your own grade.
Fast forward a few years and Rileigh’s long time best friend Farrah is now my brother’s wife, and in the lead up to my brother’s wedding last year I had the chance to meet and get to know Rileigh and Kelly, so I was thrilled when they asked if I would be their wedding photographer.
On Wednesday we met up at Elk/Beaver Lake in the sunshine before heading to a busy Mt Doug for a beautiful sunset, followed by wings and beer at Smuggler’s Cove pub. Here are a few favorites

Wow did I ever enjoy this wedding? After flying in the day before, I got to spend a solid day with the wedding party and close family of Danielle and Matt, getting acquainted and just having a good time.
Big kid Dunakaroos, rap battles, candy raids, thigh deodorant, sunshine, tears, mini golf and tons of laughter are a few of the words that come to mind for this wonderful Wedding celebration Photography at The Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna.
A big shout out to the vendors who helped make this possible:

MELISSA & MARK’S QUADRA ISLAND WEDDING – VANCOUVER ISLAND WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
Hanging out with Mark & Melissa throughout the journey up to and including their wedding has been such a blast.

Their engagement session up in Ucluelet was one of my favorites I’ve shot to date, and several of the images from that shoot have won some cool awards. So naturally, their wedding on the (slightly) remote Quadra Island didn’t disappoint.
The setting was absolutely gorgeous and as ever these two were so natural in front of the camera. Even amidst battling the flu on her wedding day, Melissa was a champ and powered through to make lifelong memories and stunning images.
Here are a few favorites

Reception Venue: Tsa-Kwa Luten Lodge at Camp Mudge

My connection to Raleigh actually goes way back, we went to the same elementary school and I was actually in a couple of classes with her older brother.

But it wasn’t until my younger brother got together (and later married) her best friend that I got the chance to meet both Raleigh and her then-boyfriend Kelly.
These two make an adorable pair, and I could tell after our engagement session together that the wedding was going to be easy and enjoyable. The weather threatened us on the big day but once the ceremony started at Starling Lane the sun broke through the clouds and the rain held off for most of the rest of the day.
I had never been to Starling Lane in the fall and the color palette was totally different but still beautiful as ever. Before heading to the reception at Uvic’s University Club we spent some time at the beach in Gordon Head and were treated with a wonderful autumn color palette on the University grounds. Here are so favorites from their big day!
Ceremony and Photos: Starling Lane Winery
Reception: University Club of Victoria
Hair: Fish Hair Salon
Makeup: Sonia’s Artistry

Kelly’s Suit: Outlooks for Men

I had the pleasure of meeting Alicia at Amanda & Lyall’s wedding last year; She was a Bridesmaid and little did I know at the time that she had just gotten engaged a few days prior! So with her upcoming nuptials in mind, she was paying extra attention during the whole day to all the vendors and how we worked and I’m thrilled that she contacted me shortly afterward to shoot hers and Brandon’s big day!

As with Amanda and Lyall’s wedding, I had the pleasure of working alongside Chelsea from Paper Heart Films for the day who is always such a sweetheart to work with. We started off at one of her friends’ vacation homes in Shawnigan Lake before heading up to the beautiful Merridale Ciderworks for the ceremony and reception.
It was wet and chilly but Alicia and Brandon braved the cold without complaint, and Brandon even took a fall in the mud at one point. These two are warm, kind, genuine people whose families are of utmost importance to them and I had a pleasure work with them every step of the way. Here are a few favorites!

Victoria, British Columbia - The Best Place for Your Wedding Close Up

There are so
many great places in this world to get your wedding photos taken that it’s hard
to choose just one. I’ve traveled all over and I’ve seen a lot of great
landscapes. They each have their own unique “something” that makes them
special. Greece is full of ancient structures and artifacts, Spain owns some of
the most beautiful islands in the world, and China is bustling with huge urban
centers with millions of people. Yet nothing is quite as breathtaking as the
scenery in British Columbia.
Although it
isn’t always the first place people think of for wedding photos, British
Columbia proves for itself that it has some of the most captivation
picture-perfect spots you’ll ever find. It has something for just about
everyone whether it’s the high mountains you love, the beautiful beaches that
line the shores, or the rich wildlife on land and in the sea.
It’s most
cherished spot is probably it's Vancouver Island where you can find all of
these things and more. Victoria, BC, not far from Vancouver, sits right at the
southern tip of the island extremely close to the US-Canadian border. That is
where you’ll find a photographer by the name of Jon-Mark who shows off his
amazing examples of his Victoria BC wedding photography on his website at http://jonmarkphoto.com/. Jon-Mark has
genuine experience shooting wedding photos in British Columbia which has turned
him into an expert on the area. He often takes couples to areas on or around
the island to get the perfect shot.
For those
looking for a high altitude to get your photos taken, Vancouver Island offers
some pretty amazing views from its mountainous landscape. The national parks
are abundant and are the perfect place to go for scenic views from the top.
They even have convenient parking lots near the popular areas so you won’t have
to hike up the mountain in your wedding gear!
Or you could
stay on the low ground and pose with the impressive snow-capped mountains in
your background. The low ground also offers some pretty amazing beaches as
well. In some cases, you can even stand on the beach with a mountain behind
you.
Victoria and the
surrounding area is also famous for its amazing waterways. There are countless
shops to rent kayaks or other boats to explore the area. Many who take the
water hope for a chance to see Orcas surface in front of them, although there
are plenty of other wildlife that you’re almost certain to catch a glimpse of
while in the water.
The Canada Photo
Convention has realized the quality that Jon-Mark’s photos contain and thus
named him on their list of the “Top 30 under 30.” Couples love him as well!
They say that being around him is a fun and light experience rather than a
stressful photo shoot. They have also given him a perfect rating of 5 stars on
the popular website, Wedding Wire for good reason.

They say that a picture can tella thousand words. Few pictures come close to as important as those from your engagement or wedding day photoshoot. Your wedding photos should tell the story of your relationship, what makes the two of you happy or maybe your favorite activities together. The story your photos tell depends on whether or not you’ve made sure you’ve chose the right wedding photographer.
There are surely photographers by the thousands all over Canada, or perhaps thousands even in Vancouver alone, that would be willing to simply take your money to snap a few pictures. However, simply playing the part of an average wedding photographer won’t produce outstanding photos. Your photos should tell your 1,000-word story through a powerful image.Sending that perfect message can only be achieved with the absolute best images, tailored to yourown unique and special preferences.
Your photographer has to know all about you; more about you than just your name and which side is your “good side”. After all, your unique story is what inspired your photographs in the first place. A knowledgeable and caring photographer like Jon-Mark Wiltshire takes time to get to his clients well before even capturing the first shot. His unshaken attention to detail has helped earn him a spot on the Canada Photo Convention’s “Top 30 under 30” as well as a perfect 5-star rating on Wedding Wire.
Due to his fantastic reviews, it’s no wonder why Jon-Mark is by far the best candidate in Vancouver BC wedding photography. His dedication to photographing young couples is unparalleled. He loves to think of his couples as his personal friends rather than simply“clients”. He personally takes the time to understand the unique features of every couple; even the smallest details. Photoshoots are fun, not nerve-wracking. Genuine smiles and laughs are sure to be a part of every session, free of charge. It’s comparable to hanging out with an old friend—a friend with great camera skills that is.

Jon-Mark has a special ability to find what specifically it is that makes a couple clicks and then superimposes that characteristic onto a canvased work of art. The special understandinghe gains with his couples is what brings each and every photo to life, telling not just of one moment in time, but displaying the bigger picture altogether.
The photos produced by Jon-Mark Photography will be your own lasting memory to appreciate for a lifetime. They’re colorful, joyful and most importantlyextraordinarily unlike any other wedding photos you’ve ever seen. Jon-Mark goes to such great lengths to ensure you receive a quality picturethat everyone will be blown away by.You can expect every photoshoot to be a fun and easygoing experience filled with a lot of smiles and laughs.Let Jon-Mark Photography take paint your story with the fantastic wedding photos that you’ll be sure to cherish.
